After a factory zone is built on the mainland, the sea around Aina's home on Curativa Island quickly becomes polluted. Aina's mother and father have left Aina and her grandmother behind on the island so they could go to the mainland to earn money. But Aina hasn't heard from her parents in some time, and after the grandmother she depends on dies, Curativa Island is swallowed up by a tsunami. Aina, now having lost everything, goes to the mainland to search for her parents. But the mainland is infested with the deadly purata virus and is unsafe.
