Moliere is a French playwright, actor and poet. Widely regarded as one of the greatest writers of French and universal literature, his extant works include comedy, comedy, tragedy, and comedy ballet. This book is one of Moliere's comedies.
The work Sganarelle, or Imaginary Cuckold, is a comedy in Moliere's passages. His first great success was achieved on 28 May 1660 at the Theatre du Petit-Bourbon in Paris.

Six months after the dazzling success of Precieus Ridicules, Moliere presented a new comedy at the Theater du Petit-Bourbon called Sganarelle, ou le Cocu Imaginaire. Although Moliere says he got his first idea from the Italian comedy Il Ritratto ovvero Arlicino cornuto per opinione, it is difficult to determine at this time whether this is true as it has never been printed. Moliere was also inspired by Noel Du Fil, Rabelais, Quinze joyes de Mariage, Cent nouvelles Nouvelles and perhaps other older authors to write this comedy.
