The Imaginary Invalid is a three-act play written by Moliere, his last work. This work was first performed in 1673. Moliere fell four times during the performance of the play, after which he died shortly thereafter. The original play includes dance scenes and a musical interlude composed by Marc-Antoine Charpentier.

The play begins with Argan, a severely forgetful patient, itemizing the bills he received from a pharmacist. He pays only half of the amount on his bill, and in so doing he calls his maid, Tuinette. If she doesn't show up right away, he yells at her and keeps calling her name until she arrives...
