오이디푸스 렉스(Oedipus Rex)로도 알려진 오이디푸스 왕(Oedipus King)은 기원전 429년경에 처음 공연된 소포클레스의 아테네 비극이다. 소포클레스가 오이디푸스를 다룬 세 편의 희곡 중에서 두 번째 작품이다. 그러나 주제적으로는 3부작의 역사적 연대기 중 첫 번째였으며 콜로노스의 오이디푸스와 안티고네가 그 뒤를 이었다.
오이디푸스 왕은 오이디푸스가 아버지 라이오스를 죽이고 어머니 이오카스테와 결혼할 것이라는 예언을 무의식적으로 성취하면서 테베의 왕이 된 남자의 이야기를 들려주는데...

Oedipus King, also known as Oedipus Rex, is an Athenian tragedy by Sophocles first performed around 429 BC. This is the second of three plays by Sophocles dealing with Oedipus. Thematically, however, it was the first of a historical chronicle in a trilogy, followed by Oedipus of Colonus and Antigone.
Oedipus the King tells the story of a man who became king of Thebes while unconsciously fulfilling the prophecy that Oedipus would kill his father Laius and marry his mother Jocasta...
