The action of Medea, former princess of the kingdom of Colchis and wife of Jason, is central. She finds her own place in the Greek world threatened when her Jason leaves her for the Greek princess of Corinth. After Medea avenges her by murdering Jason's new wife and her own two sons, she escapes to Athens to start her new life.
