This book is published by Margaret Sanger, a birth control advocate and one of the founders of the organization that became Planned Parenthood. Sanger's work as a nurse made her aware of the effects of unwanted pregnancies on women. She devoted herself to birth control education, coined the term "contraception", distributed literature and opened a clinic. Sanger was also a staunch believer in eugenics, and she advocated birth control as a way to achieve this goal. The controversial book expresses her ideal that humanity could be improved by using birth control to eliminate "undesirable" genetic traits.
