Summary
It follows the lives of Newland Archer and Ellen Olenska, two ex-lovers who haven't seen each other in over 25 years. When they meet again at a dinner party, they are shocked at how much their lives have changed since they last saw each other. Archer, now married and with children, realizes that he has never truly loved her wife and has lived an emotionally empty life, while Ellen, who lived in Europe and is now a widow, struggles with her life and with Archer a few years ago. I feel disillusioned with the social restrictions that I couldn't be together... .
