"Gaspar Ruiz" is a short story written by Joseph Conrad, first published in 1906, set during the Latin American War of Independence and tells the story of a soldier named Gaspar Ruiz who must choose between his allegiance to Spain.
While the book is a powerful exploration of topics such as loyalty, betrayal, and the struggle for freedom, Conrad's vivid descriptions of the Latin American landscape and Gaspar Ruiz's complex character make the story compelling and thought-provoking.
