The book, published in 1935, is a fairy tale by Thornton W. Burgess. Thornton Waldo Burgess (January 17, 1874 ? June 5, 1965) was an American conservationist and children's author. He became known as the Bedtime Story-Man after his newspaper column Bedtime Stories, and by the time of his retirement he had written more than 170 books and 15,000 stories for his daily column.

Summary
Farmer Brown's boy, Tommy, finds an old gray stone in the pasture and magically transforms it into the desired animal, leading him to adventures with Danny Meadow Mouse, Peter Rabbit, Old Mr. Toad, Beaver Paddy and many others. Thornton W. Burgess weaves each story to include an interesting nature story, a bit of humor, important values, and enough danger to give each story an exciting ending.
