"The Old Lady Shows Her Medals" is a one-act play written by J. M. Barrie. It was first performed in 1917 as part of a series of short plays called "Half-Hours". The play begins with the character of Mrs Dowey, an elderly woman living in London during World War I.
"The Old Lady Shows Her Medals" themes her pride, patriotism, and the human need for recognition and belonging. It is a time when individuals can go about how to cope with the hardships of war and to maintain a sense of dignity and purpose.
Barrie's play is a poignant commentary on the complexities of personal identity and the effects of war on ordinary people. It highlights the length at which individuals can feel connected to a greater cause and the power of imagination and storytelling to provide a sense of comfort and belonging.
