¢º This is the story of the great war that Rikki-tikki-tavi fought single-handed, through the bath-rooms of the big bungalow in Segowlee cantonment. Darzee, the tailor-bird, helped him, and Chuchundra, the musk-rat, who never comes out into the middle of the floor, but always creeps round by the wall, gave him advice; but Rikki-tikki did the real fighting. ¢¹ ÀÌ°ÍÀº ¸®Å°-ƼŰ-Ÿºñ(Rikki-tikki-tavi)°¡ ¼¼°íºí¸® º´¿µ(Segowlee cantonment)¿¡ ÀÖ´Â Å« ¹æ°¥·ÎÀÇ ÈÀå½ÇÀ» ÅëÇØ È¥ÀÚ¼ ½Î¿î ´ëÀü(the great war)ÀÇ À̾߱âÀÔ´Ï´Ù. ¸ÂÃã»õÀÎ ´Ù¸£Áö(Darzee)°¡ ±×¸¦ µµ¿Ô°í, ¹Ù´Ú ÇÑ°¡¿îµ¥·Î ³ª¿ÀÁö ¾Ê°í Ç×»ó º® ¿·À» ±â¾î ´Ù´Ï´Â »çÇâÁã ÃßÃáµå¶ó(Chuchundra, the musk-rat)°¡ ±×¿¡°Ô Á¶¾ðÀ» ÇØÁÖ¾ú½À´Ï´Ù. ¢º The Law of the Jungle, which never orders anything without a reason, forbids every beast to eat Man except when he is killing to show his children how to kill, and then he must hunt outside the hunting-grounds of his pack or tribe. The real reason for this is that man-killing means, sooner or later, the arrival of white men on elephants, with guns, and hundreds of brown men with gongs and rockets and torches. Then everybody in the jungle suffers. The reason the beasts give among themselves is that Man is the weakest and most defenceless of all living things, and it is unsportsmanlike to touch him. They say too?and it is true?that man-eaters become mangy, and lose their teeth. ¢¹ ÀÌÀ¯ ¾øÀÌ ¾î¶² °Íµµ ¸í·ÉÇÏÁö ¾Ê´Â Á¤±ÛÀÇ ¹ýÄ¢Àº ¸ðµç Áü½ÂÀÌ »ç¶÷À» Àâ¾Æ¸Ô´Â °ÍÀ» ±ÝÁöÇÏ°í ÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù. ´Ü, ¾ÆÀ̵鿡°Ô Á×ÀÌ´Â ¹æ¹ýÀ» º¸¿©ÁÖ±â À§ÇØ »ç¶÷À» Á×ÀÌ°í ¹«¸®³ª ºÎÁ·ÀÇ »ç³ÉÅÍ ¹Û¿¡¼ »ç³ÉÀ» ÇØ¾ß ÇÏ´Â °æ¿ì´Â Á¦¿ÜµË´Ï´Ù.
