A novel published by Claire in 1903, the story follows Mark Mallory, a young West Point cadet who is faced with a difficult choice: to preserve his honor or save the life of a fellow cadet.
Upton Sinclair was a prolific writer, his most famous work being the aforementioned novel "The Jungle," which exposed the harsh conditions of the meatpacking industry. His other famous works include "Oil!" and "Dragon's Teeth", among others.

Summary
Mallory is a brilliant student and a natural leader. He is also very independent and he is determined to do what he believes is right. When she sees a fellow cadet cheating on an exam, Mallory knows to report him. But he also knows that doing so could ruin the cadet's career and possibly his life.

Mallory is torn between her duty to defend West Point's honor and her personal desire to help those in need. Eventually he makes a difficult decision to keep the cheating a secret...
