¡°The Machine¡± is a political satire by Upton Sinclair, first published in 1912, about the corrupt powers of New York City's Tammany Hall Machine. The play tells the story of Allan Montague, a young lawyer who becomes disillusioned with the political system and becomes involved in a conspiracy to expose the machine.
"The Machine" exposed the corrupt side of the political system and was a critical commercial success, lauded by listeners, but socially controversial, forcing the play to be banned in some cities. However, the play remains an important work of American literature and is still performed today.
¡°The Machine¡± tells the themes of corruption, power, and the American Dream, and is a must-read for anyone interested in American history and politics.
