¡°Christianity, Martial Arts, and Discipleship¡± is a book that aims to encourage readers to think deeply about what Christianity is, what Christians learn, and who they believe in, by comparing it to martial arts. In martial arts, each discipline has its own name such as Taekwondo, Judo, Hapkido, and Boxing, and a systematic training program from beginner (white belt) to advanced (black belt). Regardless of their level, practitioners know what discipline they are learning and at what stage they are in, and can differentiate it from other martial arts.
In Christianity, like in martial arts, there are different denominations such as Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist, and Holiness, each with slightly different doctrines. However, it is rare for believers to understand these doctrines accurately and live out their faith based on them. Furthermore, many Christians are unaware that Christian doctrines have different levels of complexity from beginner to advanced. Some even attend churches without realizing the differences between their own and other churches. They may question whether all churches follow Jesus¡¯ teachings and believe in Him equally. If all churches had the same teachings, there would be no need for different denominations. Christians who are unaware of the differences between denominations are also unaware of the differences between heresy and cults.
