▶ 페이비언 협회(Fabian Society, 1884~)의 페이비언 사회주의자(Fabian Socialist) : ▷ 자유무역보다 보호무역주의를 지지하고, 토지의 국유화와 식민주의 혹은 식민지 개화론을 주장한 페이비언 협회(Fabian Society, 1884~)는 1884년 런던에서 설립된 이후 현재까지 사회민주주의 정책과 영국 노동당(the Labour Representation Committee)의 창립(1990)에 지대한 영향을 미친 ‘영국에서 가장 유망한 지적 사회운동’ 중 하나로 평가받습니다. ▷ 버나드 쇼는 페이비언 사회주의자들의 의견을 모은 최초의 외교 문제 견해 성명서(the first statement of its views on foreign affairs) 파비앙주의와 제국(Fabianism and the Empire)의 초안을 작성하는 등 적극적으로 활동하였습니다.
▶ Anarchists and Socialists. Some years ago, as the practical policy of the Socialist party in England began to shape itself more and more definitely into the program of Social-Democracy, it became apparent that we could not progress without the gravest violations of principles of all sorts. In particular, the democratic side of the program was found to be incompatible with the sacred principle of the Autonomy of the Individual. It also involved a recognition of the State, an institution altogether repugnant to the principle of Freedom. Worse than that, it involved compromise at every step; and principles, as Mr. John Morley once eloquently showed, must not be compromised. ▷ 무정부주의자와 사회주의자. 몇 년 전, 영국 사회당의 실천적 정책이 점점 더 확실하게 사회민주주의 강령으로 구체화되기 시작하면서, 모든 종류의 원칙을 심각하게 위반하지 않고는 우리가 진보할 수 없다는 것이 명백해졌습니다. 특히, 프로그램의 민주적 측면은 개인의 자율성이라는 신성한 원칙과 양립할 수 없는 것으로 밝혀졌습니다. 그것은 또한 자유의 원칙에 전혀 어긋나는 제도인 국가를 인정하는 것과도 관련이 있었습니다. 그보다 더 나쁜 것은 모든 단계에서 타협이 필요하다는 것입니다. 존 몰리(John Morley) 씨가 한때 설득력 있게 보여주었듯이 원칙은 타협되어서는 안 됩니다.
▶ Individualist Anarchism. "The economic principles of Modern Socialism," says Mr. Tucker, "are a logical deduction from the principle laid down by Adam Smith in the early chapters of his Wealth of Nations?namely, that labor is the true measure of price. From this principle, these three men [Josiah Warren, Proudhon and Marx] deduced 'that the natural wage of labor is its product.'“ ▷ 개인주의적 아나키즘. 터커 씨는 "현대 사회주의의 경제 원칙은 아담 스미스가 국부론의 초기 장에서 제시한 원칙, 즉 노동이 가격의 진정한 척도라는 원칙에서 논리적으로 추론한 것"이라고 말합니다. 원리에 따르면, 이 세 사람[조시아 워렌(Josiah Warren, 1798~1874), 프루동(Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, 1809~1865), 마르크스(Karl Marx, 1818~1883)]은 '노동의 자연임금은 노동의 산물'이라고 추론했습니다."
▶ Communist Anarchism. State Socialism and Anarchism, says Mr. Tucker, "are based on two principles, the history of whose conflict is almost equivalent to the history of the world since man came into it; and all intermediate parties, including that of the upholders of the existing society, are based upon a compromise between them." These principles are Authority?the State Socialist principle, and Liberty?the Anarchist principle. State Socialism is then defined as "the doctrine that all the affairs of men should be managed by the government, regardless of individual choice," whereas Anarchism is "the doctrine that all the affairs of men should be managed by individuals or voluntary associations, and that the State should be abolished.“ ▷ 공산주의 아나키즘. 터커 씨는 국가사회주의와 무정부주의는 "두 가지 원칙에 기초하고 있는데, 그 갈등의 역사는 인간이 등장한 이래 세계의 역사와 거의 동일하다. 사회는 그들 사이의 타협에 기초를 두고 있습니다." 이러한 원칙은 권위(국가 사회주의 원칙)와 자유(무정부주의 원칙)입니다. 국가사회주의는 "인간의 모든 일은 개인의 선택에 관계없이 정부에 의해 관리되어야 한다는 교리"로 정의되는 반면, 무정부주의는 "인간의 모든 일은 개인이나 자발적인 단체에 의해 관리되어야 하며, 국가를 폐지해야 한다는 것입니다.“
▶ Democracy. I now, accordingly, return to Mr. Tucker's criticism of State Socialism, which, for the sake of precision, had better be called Social-Democracy. There is a Socialism?that of Bismarck; of the extinct young England party; of the advocates of moralized feudalism; and of mob contemners generally?which is not Social-Democracy, but Social-Despotism, and may be dismissed as essentially no more hopeful than a system of Moralized Criminality, Abstemious Gluttony, or Straightforward Mendacity would be.
