Summary
Bill Jonathan, an archaeologist who searches for hieroglyphs and fossil remains in caves in the Nevada Mountains, called Professor Abington that way. While avoiding the sheriff, Bill happened to spot what the professor was looking for, and was happy to join forces and turn around as a guide. However, Betsy O'Donovan and her niece Jean have invaded the area, and although they were only looking for precious minerals and considered the two rivals in their respective fields, the professor prevents his discovery by their scientific rivals. This mutual distrust and suspicion sets the stage for events that place Abington and Jean in great danger.
