부르디외로 한국 사회를 읽는다

저자는 현대사회가 작동하는 방식에는 일상생활의 관습적 취향과 공적인 영역에서의 이성적 가치관이 동시에 작동하고 있다는 것을 깨닫는다. 저자는 이것은 늘 계급적 차별을 만들어 내고 있지만, 이러한 차별이 제대로 인식되지 못하는 이유는 현대 자본주의 구조적 모순이 상징적으로 작동하기 때문이라고 본다. 한편 한국과 같은 제3세계에서는 이러한 계급적 차별이 국제적인 수준에서 강제되고 있으니, 이를 문화적 제국주의라고 부를 수 있다. 또 서유럽의 대표적인 학자인 부르디외를 동양의 가장 전통적인 나라인 대한민국의 학자가 어떻게 해석하고 있으며, 어떤 방식으로 비판하는지, 어떤 대상을 통해서 실증연구를 했는지가 영어권 학자에게도 흥미롭게 받아들여질 것으로 기대한다.
