" Beneath an Umbrella " is a short story by Nathaniel Hawthorne, first published in 1837 as part of his collection "Twice-Told Tales".
In ¡°Beneath an Umbrella,¡± Hawthorne tells the story of a lonely man seeking refuge from the rain under an umbrella. He meets various people along the way, each of whom reacts differently to his presence. Some of him are curious, some are indifferent, and some are even hostile. Through these interactions, Hawthorne discusses themes of isolation, human connection, and the unpredictability of social encounters.
The story is characterized by atmospheric descriptions and an exploration of the protagonist's inner thoughts and emotions as he navigates the rainy streets.

Summary
Pleasant is a rainy winter's day, within doors! The best study for such a day, or the best amusement,?call it which you will,?is a book of travels, describing scenes the most unlike that sombre one, which is mistily presented through the windows. I have experienced, that fancy is then most successful in imparting distinct shapes and vivid colors to the objects which the author has spread upon his page, and that his words become magic spells to summon up a thousand varied pictures ¡¦.
