"Little Daffydowndilly" is a short story written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, first published in 1837 as part of his collection "Twice-Told Tales".
The story revolves around a young boy named Daffydowndilly, who is described as a dreamy and imaginative child. Daffydowndilly lives with his Aunt Deborah, who is described as strict and practical. Despite Aunt Deborah's attempts to instill discipline and order in Daffydowndilly's life, he often finds solace in flights of fantasy and daydreams.
The central conflict arises when Daffydowndilly expresses a desire to attend the fair, but Aunt Deborah insists that she stay at her house to complete her chores. Disappointed, Daffydowndilly retreats to his room, where he falls asleep and dreams of attending the fair. In his dreams, he meets various fantastic characters and experiences a series of adventures.

Summary
Daffydowndilly was so called because in his nature he resembled a flower, and loved to do only what was beautiful and agreeable, and took no delight in labor of any kind. But, while Daffydowndilly was yet a little boy, his mother sent him away from his pleasant home, and put him under the care of a very strict schoolmaster, who went by the name of Mr. Toil.
