¡°The irritated people¡± is a science fiction short story written by Ray Bradbury and first published in 1947.
In 1989, Charles Crossley starts an unofficial war between the Tri-Union (European Union) and the United States. The war is carried out by harassing each other without direct violence. The United States responds with confetti bombings and mass picnics, and Tri-Union responds with repeated music broadcasts.
Each side harasses the other in increasingly creative ways...
This "war" is a unique case of victory through psychological tactics without direct violence.
Summary
Charles Crossley, President of American Jet-Propelled Ships, felt himself spread-eagled in his favorite living room chair. The voice on the televisor moaned. Europe. Crossley twitched. Secret atomic factories. Crossley jerked. Semi-dictatorships. Crossley sweated. Political pressures. War. Crossley writhed.
His wife shut the televisor off indignantly. "Nonsense!" She stared at her limp husband.
