"Erewhon Revisited Twenty Years Later by the Country's First Discoverer and His Son" is a sequel to Samuel Butler's original novel "Erewhon: Or, Beyond the Mountains." The book was published in 1901, 29 years after the first novel appeared.
In "Erewhon Revisited," Butler revisits the fictional land of Erewhon, but this time the story is split between two perspectives: Erewhon's original discoverer and his son. The original discoverer, believed to be the protagonist of the first novel, returns to Erewhon after 20 years and discovers that society is undergoing significant changes. His son also explores Erewhon and offers his observations and reflections.
The sequel, like the original novel, continues its satirical exploration of Butler's social, political, and philosophical ideas. It explores more deeply the evolution of Erewhon society and how it has responded to challenges and changes over the years. Through this exploration, Butler continues to critique Victorian society and its mores, using Erewhon as a mirror to reflect on the human condition and social norms.
Although "Erewhon Revisited" is less well-known than its predecessors, it remains a valuable continuation of Butler's imaginative and thought-provoking exploration of alternative societies and the complexities of human civilization. This book gives readers deeper insight into Butler's intellectual curiosity and his ability to blend satire and speculative fiction to reveal deeper truths about society.

Summary
Before telling the story of my father¡¯s second visit to the remarkable country which he discovered now some thirty years since, I should perhaps say a few words about his career between the publication of his book in 1872, and his death in the early summer of 1891. I shall thus touch briefly on the causes that occasioned his failure to maintain that hold on the public which he had apparently secured at first.
His book, as the reader may perhaps know, was published anonymously, and my poor father used to ascribe the acclamation with which it was received, to the fact that no one knew who it might not have been written by.
