"The Moon is Green" is a science fiction short story written by Fritz Leiber, first published in 1952. It is set in a post-apocalyptic world where the Earth has been devastated by nuclear war and only a few survivors struggle to survive.
This story explores escapism, hope, and the nature of truth. It also depicts the fear of nuclear war and the changes in human psychology caused by its aftermath.

Summary
Anybody who wanted to escape death could, by paying a very simple price?denial of life!

The main character, Effie, lives with her husband, Hank, in an underground residence protected from radiation. One day, Effie wants to see the outside world through the window, but Hank strongly forbids her from doing so.
While Hank is out, Effie opens the window and meets a stranger named Patrick. Patrick tells Effie that the outside world has become a beautiful paradise. This makes Effie feel hope and happiness.
However, Hank returns and discovers that Patrick has been contaminated with radiation. Patrick admits that his story was a lie, and says that the outside world is actually worse than he imagined.
In her despair, Effie runs outside to find out the truth, Patrick chases after her, and Hank is left shaking in fear... .
