아서 코난 도일(Arthur Conan Doyle)의 "His Last Bow"는 The Strand Magazine에서 1917년에 연재되었던 이야기를 모아 1917년에 소설책으로 처음 출간되었다. 이 소설은 홈즈가 독일 스파이인 폰(Von)와 바론(Baron)의 대화를 엿듣는 것으로 시작되는데, 홈즈는 왓슨과 함께 제1차 세계대전 전야에 독일 스파이들이 영국에서 수집한 정보를 빼앗아야 하는 임무들이 진행된다. 본 도서는 1917년에 출간된 홈즈의 마지막 추리 이야기를 원서로 실어 "His Last Bow"의 감동을 그대로 전달하고자 하였다.
