Science Fiction in English _ The Luckiest Man in Denv by C. M. Kornbluth
"The Luckiest Man in Denv" is a post-apocalyptic science fiction short story published in Galaxy Science Fiction June 1952 by C. M. Kornbluth. The title's title, "Denv," refers to Denver after a nuclear war.
The story is set in a devastated world after a nuclear war. The protagonist considers himself the luckiest man in Denver. He still owns a working television, a valuable possession in this ruined world.
Through this work, Kornbluth depicts the collapse of civilization after a nuclear war and the human condition in it. In particular, he shows how the concept of "luck" can be relative and ironic, and explores how human values change in a world where the benefits of civilization have disappeared.
The work reflects the fear of nuclear war during the Cold War, but also provides deep insight into the meaning of human survival, hope, and happiness.

Summary
To get the break of his life, all Reuben had to do was turn the death trap into a jackpot!

May's man Reuben, of the eighty-third level, Atomist, knew there was something wrong when the binoculars flashed and then went opaque. Inwardly he cursed, hoping that he had not committed himself to anything. Outwardly he was unperturbed. He handed the binoculars back to Rudolph's man Almon, of the eighty-ninth level, Maintainer, with a smile.
"They aren't very good," he said.
