He chases the Red Ferret and experiences various adventures, including a feast at the King's court in Calais Castle. Additionally, confrontations with the Spanish navy, a duel with Black Simon of Sark, and encounters with French knights place him at the center of international tensions. Nigel proves his knighthood through attempts to assault La Brohiniere Castle, visits from Robert of Beaumanoir, and a notable 30 versus 30 battle at Ploermel. All these events lead to Nigel being summoned by his master, attending a council with the King of France at Maupertuis, and seeking his third great deed.
