베니스의 상인인 안토니오는 친구를 위해 돈을 빌리게 돼요. 샤일록이라는 고리대금업자에게 돈을 빌리면서 이상한 계약서에 사인을 하게 된답니다. 하지만 불행한 일이 일어나고 결국 안토니오는 돈을 갚지 못하게 돼요. 샤일록은 계약서에 내용에 따라 안토니오는 자신의 살 1파운드를 그에게 줘야 한다고 주장해요!

Antonio, a merchant, borrows money for a friend, and so he signs a strange contract with Shylock, a man who lends money to others. But a disaster happens, and Antonio cannot pay it back. Shylock then demands that his contract be honored. The merchant must pay the bond with a pound of his own flesh!
