어느 날 호랑이는 들판에서 열심히 일하는 물소를 만나요. 호랑이는 농부처럼 현명해져서 동물들을 마음대로 부리며 살고 싶어요. 호랑이는 농부에게 현명하게 만들어 달라고 하지만 오히려 농부의 꾀에 넘어가서 나무에 묶이고 불에 가죽이 타고 말았어요. 이렇게 해서 호랑이는 몸에 줄무늬가 생기게 되었답니다.

Long ago, a tiger sees a water buffalo in a field. The tiger
has no stripes. He wants to know why the strong water
buffalo works for a weak man. The water buffalo says
the man is wise. Tiger wants to be wise, so he goes to
the man. But the man does not make the tiger wise. He
gives the tiger his stripes.
