서양인즉 네덜란드 사람으로 한국에 처음온 하멜임. 포모사 즉 지금의 대만에서 일본으로 배로 항해하다가 제주도에 표류후 조선에서 13년간 억류된 후에 탈출후에 네덜란드로가서 하멜표류기를 씀.
