톨스토이가 1895년에 출간한 단편소설이다.
이 야기는 Vasili Andreyevich Brekhunov라는 이름의 지주는 그의 농부 중 한 명인 Nikita와 썰매로 짧은 여행을 떠난다. 그들은 Vasili Andreyevich가 숲을 구입할 수 있도록 다른 지주를 방문하기 위한 여행이기도 하다. 그는 참을성이 없으며 다른 경쟁자가 도착하기 전에 더 빨리 도착하기를 원한다.
두 사람은 눈보라 한가운데에 있음을 알아 차리지 지주는 탐욕스러운 마음에 계속 전진하기를 주장하는데….
