Written in 1819 by Washington Irving, "Little Britain" is one of the stories in his collection of short stories, "The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent." This book is a whimsical, nostalgic take on a small London town known for its quaint shops and the old ways of its residents.
"Little Britain" is one of 34 stories in which Washington Irving uses humor and satire to observe cultural differences and social customs between Britain and the United States. The work compares and contrasts the American and British societies of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, through which Irving reveals the social, political and cultural conditions of the time and paints the landscape of the time.

Summary
Irving begins by describing the physical appearance of Little Britain. He wrote that it was a small town with narrow streets and courtyards and very old and dilapidated houses. He also points out that the neighborhood has numerous shops and businesses, many of which have been in operation for centuries.
Irving then goes on to describe the inhabitants of Little Britain. He wrote that they were a "quiet and orderly" people who "kept the ancient customs and customs of their ancestors." He also says that they "love to gossip" and "love to talk about their neighbour's business."
