Alan Edward Nourse는 미국의 SF 작가이자 의사였다. 그는 청소년 및 성인 SF 소설은 물론 의학과 과학에 관한 논픽션 작품도 썼다. 그의 SF 작품은 때때로 의학 또는 사이오닉에 초점을 맞췄다. 그의 가장 유명한 필명은 Doctor X였다.

줄거리는 "오염 승무원"으로 알려진 전문가 팀을 중심으로 이루어진다. 그들의 임무는 외딴 행성에서 생물학적 또는 환경적 오염과 관련된 사건을 조사하고 청소하는 것이다. 승무원은 위험 물질을 취급하고 위험한 병원체의 확산을 방지하도록 훈련받은 과학자, 의사 및 기술자로 구성된다.

This book is a short science fiction novel by Alan E. Nourse published in “Worlds of Science Fiction” in 1958.
Alan Edward Nourse was an American science fiction writer and physician. He has written young adult and adult science fiction as well as nonfiction works about medicine and science. His science fiction work sometimes focused on medicine or psionics. His most famous pen name was Doctor X.

The plot centers around a team of experts known as the "pollution crew". Their mission is to investigate and clean up incidents related to biological or environmental contamination on remote planets. The crew consists of scientists, doctors and technicians trained to handle hazardous materials and prevent the spread of dangerous pathogens.
As the story unfolds, the contaminated crew is dispatched to a distant planet where a deadly outbreak has occurred.

Summary
Orders were orders! The creature had to be killed.
But just how does one destroy the indestructible?

These charges will undoubtedly be preferred by one Turvold Neelsen, Physician Grade II of the Black Service, and Commander of the Mercy on its current survey mission into the Vorochislov Sector. Exactly what the charges will be I cannot say, since the Black Doctor in question refuses either audience or communication with me at the present time; however, it seems likely that treason, incompetence and mutinous insubordination will be among the milder complaints registered. It is possible that even Malpractice might be added, so you can readily understand the reasons for this statement?
