¡°A Trace of Memor¡± is a short story published in full in 1963 by Keith Laumer, famous for science fiction and speculative fiction.
The novel exudes a mysterious atmosphere, raising curiosity about what various adventures will unfold as Legion, a military veteran, accepts Foster's offer.
Chapter 1 reads like an independent story in itself, but is a great introduction that foreshadows the exciting development of the entire novel. Laumer draws readers deeply into the story through his unique sharp writing style and psychological depth. It makes us look forward to what adventures they will have in the coming chapters and stimulates the reader's curiosity.

Summary
The main character, Legion, is living a ruined life and visits Foster after seeing an advertisement. Legion used to work for the Army Intelligence Agency, but was kicked out due to an accident, and has since lived a life of poverty, working as a private investigator, casino employee, and used car salesman.
Foster hopes to regain Legion's confidence by suggesting him do dangerous and adventurous things. Foster has been advertising for a long time and looking for someone like Legion.
The Legion is wary of Foster's proposal, but also has its doubts. Foster asks Legion if he knows anyone with amnesia...
