¡°It Could Be Anything¡° is a science fiction novel published in 1964 by Keith Laumer.
This is the story of the main character, Brett, leaving the small town of Casperton and heading to the city.
This novel tells the story of a young man trying to leave his hometown and experience a new world. Through the psychology of Brett, who has not yet left the village, and his conflict with Pretty-Lee, the contrast between the conservative country town and the glamorous city life is implied.

Summary
Brett decides to leave for another town despite Mr. Phillips and Aunt Haicey's dissuasion at the train station. His aunt is worried that Brett only reads thick books, and Mr. Phillips recommends that he stay in town and find a job. But Brett doesn't give up on his desire to see the world outside the village for himself.
After getting on the train, Brett looks at the scenery of his hometown and imagines the city and Mother Nature. He thinks about his girlfriend, Pretty-Lee, and also reminisces about the argument he had with her yesterday.
Looking at the movie magazine that Pretty-Lee was reading, Brett criticized the glamorous life and ridiculous advertisements depicted in the magazine, and Pretty-Lee became angry at his attitude. Brett says he likes Pretty-Lee's natural look, but she leaves her store, saying Brett hates things better than her hometown.
