A Country Doctor tells the story of a doctor who urgently needs to visit a patient but is left in despair when his carriage breaks down. However, he is mysteriously aided by two horses and a groom who take him to the patient's house. There, he encounters a gravely injured patient but feels helpless as he cannot find a way to heal him. The villagers mock and criticize the doctor, and he becomes tormented by his own inability. The story explores themes of powerlessness, absurdity, professional duty, and moral conflict. Using surreal elements and symbolism, Kafka depicts the doctor’s suffering and helplessness. Through this, Kafka delves into the limits and absurdities of human existence.
