▶ 오평남! 오늘도 평화로운 남해로……. : 히메네즈 가문은 콜롬비아의 정치를 장학한 정치가문으로, 야당과의 대립으로 인해 곤란한 상태에 빠져 있습니다. 그는 야당을 압도하기 위해 호주를 경유해 영국의 무기회사를 통해 대량으로 무기를 들여올 위험천만한 프로젝트를 진행 중이고, 이 때문에 튼튼하고 검증된 선박을 구매하려고 합니다. 샘 일행은 타국의 정치 분쟁을 감수하고, 막대한 보상이 걸린 의뢰를 수락할까요? 이번 편은 아쉽지만 보물찾기 탐험기는 아니군요.

▶ “Permit me to explain. The family of De Jiminez has controlled Colombian politics ever since my great ancestor discovered the country and called it New Grenada. But a few years ago, while my father was traveling in Europe, the opposition obtained control and still has the presidency. The important and wealthy class, however, resented the usurpation, and even before my father alarmed at the situation hurried back home, a revolution had begun. ▶ 더 보이 포춘 헌터스 6부작(The Boy Fortune Hunters Series, 1906~1911)의 마지막 여정 : 여정 중에 제1권 알래스카편에서부터 믿음직한 선원으로 활약해온 눅스(Nux)와 브리오니아(Bryonia)의 과거가 밝혀집니다. 외삼촌 나보스 퍼킨스가 항해 중에 구출한 그들을 선원으로 삼았는데. 이번 항해에 그들의 고향땅에 그들을 내려줄 결심을 한 것이죠. 과연 눅스와 브리오니아의 선택은 스테이일까요, 고 일까요? 작가 바움이 더 보이 포춘 헌터스 시리즈를 6번째 남해 탐험기에서 마무리하는 것을 간접적으로 드러낸 대목이 아닐까 싶네요.

▶ It so happened that this was the first voyage since they were picked up that had taken us to the South Seas. We had been to Alaska, to Panama, to Egypt, China and Yucatan, but the fortune of commerce now led us for the first time into the South Pacific. When first we headed for Australia I had said to them: “Well, boys, you’re going somewhere near your native land on this voyage.”

Nux and me, we bound and put in bottom of canoe. Pearl People king say he take us to city and kill us with fire to honor his great Pearl God, who win him the fight. But sudden storm come up; very bad storm; our boat break away and drift out to sea; we nearly die from thirst and pain when you pick us up and save us. That the story of the Pearl People.
